  CODES OF PRACTICE

In children's drama there are very strict rules on and off screen that you need to follow. This is because of the age of the target audience. One of these restrictions is sexual content for example sex scenes because the audience is too young for that type of storyline and it can offend people of that age and if it was seen there would be a lot of complaints and maybe even parents suing them and causing the company to loose money which is something that don't want. Also it would be promoting illegal activity for the under age viewers which will cause even bigger problems. For example their in no sexual content or inappropriate clothing in “The Sarah Jane Adventures” which shows it is a regulatory children's drama.
Another code of practice in children's drama is no weapons. In children's dramas they are aloud science fiction weapons because they are imaginary and don't exist. House hold weapons on the other hand for example knives and other house hold objects are not promoted this is because a child can think it is OK to hurt or even kill people. In “The Sarah Jane Adventures” they do not promote these types of weapons for example the Judoon gun. This Is aloud because it is fictitious and does not exist
Another code connected to weapons is violence. In children's dramas they do not promote violence for example street fighting or one on one fighting. They do however have some scenes that are not actually classed as fighting, for example there are some scenes where the characters are trying to protect themselves and there for trick their opponent into hurting themselves or falling over. This is a successful way to portray a fighting scene because it does not promote violence to the younger generation
Bad language is another thing that should never be seen or heard in a children's drama. It consists of swearing, insulting and offending people with your words. For example there is an adult drama/comedy called “Shameless” that has a lot of explicit language that would not be excepted in a children's drama and and cause a lot of problems because it would be promoting bad and offending language which is a really bad thing to be promoting especially with the age of the target audience being so young.
Racism and negative stereo typing are a big problem all over the world because people are feed all this negative information which most of the time starts when the children are young. This is why it is good to promote everyone in the world no mater what race, religion or believes they have and to show that everyone is equal. It is good to put all people from all walks of life on children shows because it shows them from a young age that everyone is the same and everyone deserves to be treated the same one example of this is Clyde Langer who is a coloured boy, and he is not treated any differently to anyone else which is great promotion of equality for a children's drama and even in adults dramas all over the world.
Another big problem in susiaty today is drug and alcohol use at a young age and this is why it should defiantly not be glorified or promoted in children's dramas. Some children's dramas for example”Biker Grove” have discussed drugs and alcohol and have shown how dangerous they can be. “The Sarah Jane Adventures” does not go anywhere near drugs or alcohol because it is such a big problem and there for keep their audience members away from the subject from even entering their thoughts during the show which is a great thing and can put the parents mind at rest when they are watching the show.
